Remove
The
Safest
Way to Remove Acrylic
In
a Way You May Never Have Heard of Before!
Acetone
is the world’s best dissolver for many things, including, yes, you
guessed it, to
remove acrylic (it doesn’t do a thing to gel.
That, you have to file
off it seems)!
The thing about acetone is that it is toxic
to our bodies and gets absorbed immediately into our skin and on
into our bodies. So, soaking in a big bowl of acetone doesn't seem like
such a good idea, does it?
(It is very
flammable,
NO
Smoking around it!)
So,
what’s a poor girl got to do to remove acrylic with out
picking it off (that's a HUGE
no-no, by the
way!)...
Well, thanks to a wonderful co-worker, Tiffany, I
learned that I don’t need to pour a bowl of acetone and have
the client soak her fingers in this toxic liquid for 20 to remove
acrylic anymore!
One day I looked over and saw my Nail Tech friend getting
out an electric heating pad, some aluminum foil and cotton balls.
As she started to tear the foil into strips I asked what she was
doing. She said, ”Oh, I’m just getting ready to remove her
nails.” "Do what?" I asked if I could watch and she
taught me (what a sweet heart)....

you’re going to need someone to help you on this task unless you
do only one hand at a time!

Steps
for Removal
1.
Turn
on electric heating gloves
or heat a neck warming pad
in the microwave about 2 minutes just after finishing steps 2 - 4. If
it is too warm place a towel over the hands first.
*
You can make your own microwaveable heating pad by sewing an oblong
shaped tube, leaving one end open. Pour rice (add wonderful
dried
scents like heather, lavender, cinnamon..) leaving a little space for
it to lay flat, then hand sew the end closed.
2.
Tear 10 pieces of foil
into approximately 4”x4” sheets (depending on size of nail).
3.
Remove
polish
if needed
4.
Completely
saturate
(and I mean dripping) a cotton pad that is a little larger than
the
entire nail, in 100%
Pure Acetone
(regular polish remover from the drugstore won't cut it).
Lay it on
top of the acrylic and wrap the finger tight with a foil strip. Fold
the end under finger so it is completely sealed tight around the
finger and cotton ball.
5.
When all 10 nails are covered lay the heating pad on top of the foils
and let sit for about 15 minutes.

If
you’re in a salon this would be a great opportunity to get out the
retail cuticle oil, hand cream, nail strengthener and talk about the
importance of after care. Talk about adding paraffin dip to the
service and rebook for a manicure if she isn't getting nails put back
on today.
6.
After about 15 minutes, slip off one of the foils to see how it’s
coming along. You can use a cuticle stick to scrape off the
dissolving acrylic, some prefer a towel to wipe it off.
If the
acrylic is removable down to the nail, continue to take off the
acrylic one
by one
(if
you take all of the foils off at once the others will start to harden
up before you get to them).
If it isn’t soft all the way to the
natural nail, slip the foil back on and press the cotton against the
nail. You may need to add more acetone if it's not real wet.
******************
Lightly
buff any remaining acrylic and wash hands. If you’re not putting on
a new
set,
use the cuticle oil you were talking about.
*
Do not apply any oils if
you’re
going to be applying acrylic,
that's
lifting just waiting to happen!! Instead, do skin treatments
after the nails are put back on.
Massage
into cuticles. If she liked the idea of the paraffin add on, dip her
hands in 2–3 times wrap in plastic wrap wait about 10
minutes.
Use the
hand cream you suggested and talk about the
special ingredients it has and how it will to help maintain
healthy skin. Have her pay for everything and get out her keys. Remove
all the oils from the nail bed (using anything but cotton to
do it. Oh, those cotton fibers!) Some use polish remover, others
send the ladies to the sink to scrub off the oils
(recommended).
Apply
Nail Strengthener then polish.
Done!
